Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The statistics of an item are improved through upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to get a gauge of the upgraded component of each item. The cost of recycling items increases with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your weapons and armor. This can be achieved through various methods that include the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. Additionally, many items can be reforged, which could boost their stats even more.
Upgradable items can be found in the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be made by players. The most common method of upgrading equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are the items that can be slotted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others give a general bonus.
There are a variety of upgrade elements in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any kind of equipment and offer lower bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools, and provide numerous bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The preview will appear on the right hand side of the screen. It will show the expected statistics after the upgrade. If you don't have enough of either the upgrade button will say Blocked.
The number of upgrade components needed for a particular item is displayed in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the rarity and level of the item increases. However you can lower the cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller, or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be upgraded with the use of a prefix upgrade like an insignia or rune. Many can be upgraded with a suffix upgrade. These upgrades add an adjective to the name of the item for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to convey visual information. They move to grab the viewer's eye and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language and makes them more effective in transmitting the message of a language barrier. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by specific amount. This is displayed on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This range is the maximum value that a glyph could increase a stat's value by but not the amount it will actually increase it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the product you are enchanting it to.
The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use but it hasn't been applied to gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
You can remove a glyph by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is located will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be retrieved by removing the glyph fragments.
If you take an item off after putting a glyph on it, the shards from the glyph will vanish. You can also apply the glyph on your equipment to provide an extra benefit. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at once. This is helpful for those who take lots of damage from their enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes on equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from a variety of sources, including mystery boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player an unspecified affix, which is usually better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens are also a good way to reroll weapon stats, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or additional perks.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the upgrade menu, but they are still eligible to receive upgrades. By pressing the "upgrade button", you can recycle these rerolled items. This will change the appearance of the window for the item and let up to six items be selected to recycle. Recycling an item can add a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, therefore items with higher levels are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones.
In addition to reroll tokens, players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance of a weapon's traits. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolling is a fantastic way to upgrade an item. However, players must be aware that the total ilvl will be diminished by the number of that it took to reroll it to the final level. This is evident on Diadems and Rings, as they have no other options to increase the ilvl.
The reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive, and it would be more equitable to let players pay for it using money or food items which would allow players to modify their build without wasting time and energy. The developers do not plan to implement paid rerolls at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning to add an option to change the race in the near future.
Leveling
There are a number of ways to level up an upgrade to an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount, which increases the value of upgrading any stat. The second option is to boost the effect of the upgrade, which increases the healing or damage for the stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel, but will be upgraded to reflect the effects of the upgraded item.
It is crucial to remember that upgrades can be random. Most of the time, a higher roll is based on the glyphs. However there are instances where a higher or more special roll could occur. The type of item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a specific kind of item, it has a chance of getting an additional level.
The cost of upgrading items can be expensive especially if you're upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item will be contingent on the base iLevel as well as the number of upgrade levels. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests to reach the next upgrade level.
If you're fortunate the upgraded item could attain the highest level on its upgrade track and gain an additional effect. This will give you a substantial increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect changes with each upgrade level. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased by +3.
The iLevel will also change in accordance with the item's upgrade path and base level. For instance, a weapon that is upgraded from a unique or rare to an extraordinary item will be able to be upgraded to the Enhanced Defense of the base item type.
